Adopt-a-Block
Help Keep Greenfield Picked up! Volunteer to Adopt-a Block!
Connect Greenfield, in concert with the Greenfield Organization, is seeking volunteers for its 2009 Adopt-a-Block program to help keep Greenfield free of litter and debris. The purpose of this program is to tap community interest in the stewardship of Greenfield’s streets, steps and parks by providing an opportunity for residents and businesses to assist in maintaining and enhancing the look and cleanliness of Greenfield public spaces.
In 2008, 27 volunteers helped keep Greenfield’s streets, steps and recreational fields free of litter, picking up over 300 bags of litter, 20% of which were recyclables.
As a volunteer Adopter, you are asked to:
- Pick up or otherwise attend to your adopted street, steps or public space at least twice a month (more often if needed).
- Use plastic Giant Eagle grocery bags (white for trash/weeds and blue for recyclables) and use heavy duty gloves.
- Restrict your clean up activities to the public right-of-ways or parcels and use caution when cleaning along a busy roadway.
- Dispose of the bags using public trash receptacles or your regular city trash pickup.
- Track the number of bags you fill for reporting each month.
- Assist, if available, at the Fall and Spring Community wide clean ups.
Should you need additional help in picking up an unusually large amount of trash or litter, we have a Greenfield SWAT (Superior Warriors Against Trash) team to assist.
If interested, or if you have any questions, please email Patrick Hassett, Adopt-A-Block Coordinator, at hassettpgh@aol.com and include the following information:
